Proclamation
Whereas, a small group of concerned Pawnee citizens met for the first time, September 28, 1978, Christian Church,
Whereas, the 2nd meeting, March 9, 1979, at the Pawnee Chief, the name was established, Pawnee County Historical Society,
Whereas, March 23, 1979, incorporated, offercers elected: President Dana Hicks, Vice President Louis Rogers, Secretary/Treasurer Ruby Ripley,
Whereas, 1st Directors James Radley, W.P. Scott, Florence Lochner, Emma McGuire, Myra Eppler. Charter Member D. Jo Ferguson,
Whereas, Meetings were held at the Pawnee Bill Ranch, and the First National Bank Community Room, to bring together those interested in history ... especially the history of Pawnee County.
Whereas, The effort to discover and collect material which may estalish or illustrate the history of the area,
Whereas, Historical artifacts displayed at the Society's 1st downtown home, March 3, 1993, the old telephone office, courtesy of Keith Cheatham,
Whereas, The late Roy Lawrence offered a place for the Society on "Main" Wtreet, September 1, 1994,
Whereas, Today, with thanks to the Funkhousers, the Society has moved to the heart of downtown Pawnee,
Whereas, The buildings that once (1935) were the Thomas Grocery and Dry Goods stores now have been converted to the Historical Museaum and the Dick Tracy headquarters,
Whereas, March 23, 1999, the Pawnee County Historical Society will celebrate the 20th Anniversary and the ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the Historical Museum.
Now Therefore, the Pawnee County Commissioners do hereby proclaim Tuesday, March 23, 1999 as
PAWNEE COUNTY
HISTORICAL MUSEUM DAY
